Persistent shared world
One world that keeps running whether you are in it or not, with other players in it at the same time. This is the part vanilla Hytale already gives you: it is a multiplayer game, just not a massive one.
Short answer: Hytale is not an MMO, and no mod makes it one. The longer answer is that most of what people actually want from an MMORPG is a server-side system, and those exist. Here is the line, drawn honestly.

The answer
Hytale is a voxel sandbox adventure game with multiplayer servers. That is a different genre from an MMORPG, and calling it one is the kind of claim that gets a server list ignored. There is no shard architecture, no world holding tens of thousands of people, and nothing official resembling a persistent universe.
What there is, is a modding surface deep enough to build the rest of it. Classes, roles, raid tiers, guild politics, an economy and a progression ladder with no ceiling are all server-side systems, and all of them exist today. A Hytale server running the full suite plays like a small MMO: the loop is the same, the population is hundreds rather than thousands.
The table below is the checklist, including the two rows where the answer is no.
MMO checklist
One world that keeps running whether you are in it or not, with other players in it at the same time. This is the part vanilla Hytale already gives you: it is a multiplayer game, just not a massive one.
20 classes across 100 definitions, each with 5 ascension tiers and its own four abilities, plus 12 races and 72 race forms. Tank, healer, damage and support are real roles here, not a stat preference.
18 built-in raid and dungeon packs behind 6 difficulty ranks, with bosses that scale to the group and loot that is shared rather than sniped.
Levels to 250, prestige with no ceiling, 84 augments across 5 rarity tiers, and 17 artifact sets. The ladder does not end, which is the "endless" in the name.
Guilds with ranks, banks and perks, land claims, sieges, conquest wars, vassal states and tribute. The end game is other people, which is the part most single-server RPGs never reach.
No, and no Hytale server offers this. Hytale worlds hold a server's worth of players, not a shard's worth: hundreds across a network rather than the tens of thousands the word massively implies. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.
No. This is a third-party mod suite running on community servers, not an official Hypixel Studios product, and the world it runs on belongs to whoever hosts it. Progress lives on the network you play on.
Where to play
The official server runs every mod in the suite at play.endlessleveling.net:9000, covering Europe and North America. Several allied servers run the same systems under different rules, including a survival MMO and a PvE-focused realm with optional PvP zones, and the whole roster is on the Hytale servers page. If you would rather run the systems yourself, the mods guide covers what to install.
Not on its own. Vanilla Hytale is a multiplayer sandbox adventure game: a shared persistent world, but with no classes, no raids, no guild structure and no progression ladder past the game's own content. The MMORPG systems people mean by the word come from server-side mods, which is what Endless Leveling is.
It can be played as one. With Endless Leveling installed a server has the full RPG layer: 20 classes with defined roles, 12 races, 18 raid and dungeon packs, guilds with wars and territory, and levels that never stop. What it does not have is the "massively" part, and no Hytale server does.
Yes. The official Endless Leveling server at play.endlessleveling.net:9000 runs the whole suite, and several allied servers run it with their own rulesets, including a survival MMO and a PvE-focused realm. They are listed on the servers page.
No. The whole suite runs on the server, so you connect with an unmodified client the same way you would join any other multiplayer server.
In practice, scale and social structure. An RPG server gives you classes and levels; an MMO-style server adds the things that only matter with a population: group raids that need roles filled, guilds competing for territory, an economy, and a ladder long enough that nobody finishes it. This suite is built for the second.
Structurally it borrows the same pieces: class roles, ability rotations, raid tiers, prestige grinds and guild politics. It differs where the sandbox does: the world is voxel and buildable, the territory you hold is land you claimed and defended rather than instanced housing, and the server is community run rather than a studio universe.
Levels, uncapped prestige, 84 augments across 5 tiers and the Fates artifact game.
All 20 classes, 79 abilities, 12 races and 72 ascension forms, with build advice.
Gate tiers E to S, 18 built-in raid packs, scaling bosses and how loot is shared.
What each mod in the suite adds, free versus premium, and how to install them.
Connect to the official server, pick a race and class, and get your first levels.
Found a guild, claim territory, take vassals and fight sieges and conquest wars.
