Hytale classes & races

20 classes, 79 abilities and 12 races across 72 ascension forms. Race and class are chosen independently, so the build is really two decisions layered on top of each other.

The 20 classes

Every character holds a primary and a secondary class slot at once. Signature passives only fire in the primary slot, and innate attribute growth is halved in the secondary — so a build is a pair of classes, not one.

Scout, Beast Master and Cyberblade are gated behind a per-class permission node (endlessleveling.class.<id>) that a server operator grants — the other 17 are open to pick with /class from the start. Class is chosen independently of race: any of the 12 races can run any of the 20 classes.

How abilities work

79 distinct ability ids — four per class, each with 5 ranks — and every class's fourth ability is its Ultimate. Abilities come from the Endless Skills mod; without it a class is a passive stat and weapon identity only, with nothing to press.

Mage and Cyberblade additionally scale a mastery multiplier across the five ascension tiers — 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, 2.0x, then 3.0x at Exalted — which is part of why both give up crit entirely.

Mage

Sorcery Mastery compensates for it instead of a crit chance.

Cyberblade

Strength Mastery compensates for it instead.

Paladin

Sustain and taunt carry the weight a crit chance would.

Vanguard

Shield strength and taunt carry it instead.

The 12 races

Race sets the starting statline and, at higher prestige, the ascension forms available. It has no bearing on which class you can pick.

RaceIdentity
HumanGeneralist, and the best base XP earner.
DarkinEnormous Strength, fragile, sustained by lifesteal.
VastayaFast and agile — the strongest movement snowball.
GolemThe tankiest race, and the only one that can never crit.
CelestialThe purest caster: 100 base Sorcery, low HP.
DragonbornThe best all-round bruiser statline.
IcebornBalanced frontliner that grows stronger near death.
VoidbornA rare tanky caster — Defense and Sorcery together.
WatcherThe deepest mana pool, zero Strength, magic only.
WraithGlass cannon: highest Ferocity, lowest Life Force.
YordleHighest Precision and a huge Special Charge bonus.
AscendedSelectable base race with godlike durability.

Ascension & race forms

Each race has 6 forms: a base form, two branches at tier 1, two more at tier 2, and one final form — 72 forms total across all 12 races. Reaching one is gated on prestige plus skill-stat minimums, not just hitting a level.

Tier 1

Prestige 5

Tier 2

Prestige 10

Final form

Prestige 20

The final forms, one per race: Human Emperor, Darkin Unbound, Vastaya Apex, Golem Prime, Celestial Supreme, Alpha Dragon, Iceborn Frostlord, Void Oblivion, Watcher Arbiter, Phantom King, Yordle Master and Ascended Divinity. Progress here runs alongside the leveling and prestige system, not on a separate clock.

Picking a build

Primary carries the identity

Put the class you want to define the character in the primary slot — its signature passives only fire there, and the secondary's innate attribute growth is halved.

Race is a separate axis

Since any race can run any class, race is worth picking for the statline and ascension forms you want, not to unlock a class — nothing about it is locked to one.

No-crit classes need Sorcery or sustain

Mage, Cyberblade, Paladin and Vanguard give up Precision and Ferocity entirely. Golem is the one race that shares that restriction, so pairing it with one of those four compounds the tradeoff rather than fighting it.

Test it against real content

A build reads differently on paper than in a fight. See the raids and dungeons guide for where classes actually get pressure-tested.

Frequently asked questions

How many classes are there in Hytale?

With Endless Leveling installed, 20. Seventeen are open by default; Scout, Beast Master and Cyberblade are permission-locked behind a per-class node a server operator grants. All 20 share the same five-tier ascension line: Base, Elite, Master, Legendary, Exalted.

What is the best class?

There isn't a single answer, and a tier list would be wrong within a patch anyway. Every character holds a primary and a secondary class slot — signature passives only fire on the primary, and innate attribute growth is halved in the secondary — so the honest question is which pair fits the role you want, not which one class wins. Four classes (Mage, Cyberblade, Paladin, Vanguard) cannot crit at all and are built around a different payoff instead.

Can I change my class?

Yes. Classes are chosen with the /class command and are independent of race — any race can run any class, in either the primary or secondary slot.

How many races are there?

12. Each has 6 forms — a base form, two tier-1 branches, two tier-2 branches and a final form — for 72 race forms total. Progressing through them is gated on prestige and skill-stat minimums, not just time played.

What is ascension?

Two separate ladders share the name. Classes ascend Base to Exalted across five tiers as you rank them up. Races ascend their 6 forms at prestige gates — Tier 1 at Prestige 5, Tier 2 at Prestige 10, and the final form at Prestige 20 — alongside skill-stat requirements.

Do I need a mod to get abilities?

Yes. Abilities, and the three permission-locked classes, come from the Endless Skills mod. A server running only Endless Leveling Core has passive stat and weapon identities for all 20 classes but zero active abilities.
