Scuffed NPCs adds talkable NPCs to the server: quest givers with per-player dialogue, bounty boards, wandering world-quest contracts, escort and companion characters, guild worker NPCs (miners, harvesters, builders, training dummies), a blueprint market for guild builds, thief goblins that raid chests, and a timed server event. You mostly use it by pressing the Use key (F) on an NPC. A few features, mainly the guild workers, also have commands.
🛠️ Running a server? Requirements, staff commands, permissions and configuration live in the Scuffed NPCs server guide.
Talking to NPCs
Press the Use key (F) on an NPC to open its conversation. Attacking or clicking does nothing.
- The page shows the speaker's portrait and name, then types the line out. Answers appear when the line has finished. Press an answer to reply.
- Most conversations frame the NPC with a short cinematic camera. Walking more than 14 blocks away, or pressing Escape, ends the conversation.
- Quest givers are shared. Two players at different points of a quest see different lines and answers from the same NPC.
- Answers can do things: accept a quest, hand in items, claim a reward, point you at a menu, or run a command.
Quest markers
A floating marker above a quest giver is shown only to you.
| Marker | Meaning |
|---|---|
Bright ! | A quest is available |
Grey ? | Your quest is in progress |
Gold ? | Your quest is ready to turn in |
| None | Nothing to do here, or already claimed |
Markers need the ScuffedHolograms mod on the server. Without it the dialogue still works and the markers are simply absent.
Conversation settings
Two commands change how conversations look. Both are remembered per player.
| Command | Effect |
|---|---|
/snpc dialoguespeed (alias /snpc dspeed) | Cycles text speed: Slow, Normal, Fast, Instant |
/snpc dialoguecamera (alias /snpc dcam) | Turns the conversation camera on or off. It is on by default |
The default speed is Normal.
Quest givers and your quest log
Quests themselves live in Endless Leveling. Scuffed NPCs gives them a face: the NPC reads your live quest state every time you talk to it and shows the matching stage.
| Your quest state | What the NPC says |
|---|---|
| Not started | The offer lines, with the ! marker |
| In progress | The reminder lines, grey ? |
| Objective done | The turn-in lines, gold ? |
| Claimed | The thank-you lines |
Talking to an NPC can also complete "speak to" objectives, and a turn-in answer claims the reward through the normal quest payout, so you do not need to open the quest panel. Quests that ask for items are settled in person: the NPC counts what you carry, takes it, and credits the quest.
Following the trail
While a quest is tracked, a private trail of soft lights on the ground leads away from your feet toward the objective. It follows the recorded route where the server has one, and heads straight for the target where it has not. Only you see it. The tracked quest also drives your map marker.
Escorts and companions
Some NPCs are characters that travel with you:
- Follow and Assist characters walk beside you. Assist characters also fight what threatens you.
- Lead characters guide you along a recorded route to a destination. They cross portals with you only when the new world is part of the route, otherwise they wait at their checkpoint.
- Your personal companions are yours alone. They leave when you log out.
- Story characters in instanced dungeons (see below) follow your party, fight with you, and can be revived.
Bounty boards
A bounty board is an NPC who posts a few contracts every day. The same contracts are posted for everyone and they change when Endless Leveling's daily quest reset happens. Each board has up to 5 slots, 3 by default.
Five boards ship ready to use:
| Board | What it asks for |
|---|---|
| Farmer | Crops, handed in |
| Butcher | Meat and fish, handed in |
| Miner | Ore handed in, and ore mined from the ground |
| Hunter | Mobs killed, nothing to hand over |
| Professions | Dishes, brews, lures, bars and fish for coin and profession XP |
The professions board only exists when ScuffedProfessions is installed. Servers can rename the NPCs, add boards or remove them, so your server may differ.
How a contract works:
- Talk to the NPC and read the day's contracts. Each shows what it wants and what it pays.
- Hand-in contracts ask for items. Choose the hand-over answer and the NPC counts and takes them. Large asks can usually be handed in in parts.
- Kill and mining contracts are credited by the game as you play. You come back only to collect.
- Claim the reward when the contract is done. Payouts are coin through the server's economy, items handed over by the NPC (if your bags are full they land at your feet), or both.
The contracts you can draw for a day never repeat the same target twice on one board.
Event quests, daily givers and the timed bounty board
When the server uses Endless Leveling's quest directors, Scuffed NPCs runs three more things:
- Event NPCs appear for you at random and give you a gather task (hand in items) or a rescue task (survive attackers while you protect the NPC). The NPC is shared: another player who talks to it can take the same quest as their own, unless a rescue is already over or nearly over, they are already on another event errand, they are below the quest's minimum level, or they helped with it recently. A won rescue NPC cannot be hurt until you turn in.
- Wandering daily-quest givers stand in the world and offer up to three daily quests by default, with up to three players on each. Each offer shows what it pays and where you stand on it.
- The bounty board is Endless Leveling's timed, first-come board. The page shows a refresh countdown and how many slots are taken. Each slot reads
OPEN,YOURSwith your progress,TAKEN byanother player,COMPLETEorCLAIMED. Open slots have a "Take" answer and your finished slot a "Claim" answer. By default you can hold one unfinished bounty at a time. A refresh withdraws taken bounties that are unfinished, and a finished one stays claimable from your journal for 24 hours.
Rewards in these conversations are quoted from Endless Leveling's reward preview, so they match what you would be paid, including prestige scaling. If the server's Endless Leveling cannot give a preview, the page quotes "at least" the base XP.
World quests
A wild quest giver can appear near you in the open world and ask you to clear an elite pack. They pay through Endless Leveling's quest system.
- Being offered one. You are offered a contract about every 20 minutes. Your first offer comes about 3 minutes after you log in. You get at most 30 offers per day. Only players who are due an offer and inside 160 blocks are told, with a chat line and an on-screen World Quest title that give a compass bearing and a distance. Anyone may still walk up and take the contract.
- Taking it. Stand within 30 blocks of the giver and choose the accept answer. Up to 3 players can hold one contract. Kills made before you accepted count.
- Credit. Elites you or a nearby owner kill (within 60 blocks) count toward the quest. Your own kill always counts.
- Time. A contract lasts at most 15 minutes. A contract nobody accepted is removed after 10 minutes. You cannot take a contract with fewer than 2 minutes left. After the pack is dead the giver stays 2 minutes for turn-ins.
- Templates. The shipped templates are a hunt (3 to 5 elites) and a boss (one boss-class elite, one tier higher, double reward).
The difficulty tier follows the average Endless Leveling level of the players near the site: E from level 0, D from 15, C from 35, B from 60, A from 90 and S from 140. Rewards scale with the tier:
| Tier | E | D | C | B | A | S |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Base XP | 1500 | 3000 | 5000 | 8000 | 12000 | 18000 |
| Minimum XP as % of your next level | 6 | 8 | 10 | 12 | 15 | 18 |
| Essence | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
You are paid whichever is larger: the flat XP with your prestige bonus, or the percentage of the XP you need for your next level. The boss template doubles these. Both shipped templates also pay one common augment reroll. Sites do not appear inside guild claims or inside ScuffedProtection claims that deny quest NPCs.
Prologue tutorial
Servers that run the Endless Leveling starter campaign can use Scuffed NPCs to drive it. A Guide NPC leads you through the prologue: speak with the Guide, sign the Guild Book with the Registrar, choose your calling, try your abilities, enter the Mournhollow catacombs, shop, visit the Grand Exchange, take the Guild Master's oath, and follow a rift. Optional steps cover parties, guilds, crafting stations, first professions and more. The Guide and the arrow, trail and map marker keep pointing at your next step. If you die in the catacombs the run pauses and resumes after a short hold.
Instance stories
Inside some Endless Rifts dungeons and sky islands, story characters join your party. They have short intros, react with spoken lines as you clear sections and fight the boss, and thank you at the end. Four breach stories ship:
| Story | Character | Setup |
|---|---|---|
| The Frostbound Sentinel | Sergeant Halvard Rime | Waits at his post, joins when you talk to him |
| The Lost Lanterns | Ada Marlow and two children | Found crouched in the dungeon, then follow without fighting |
| The Caged Champion | Kaelen the Unbroken | Caged until the cage is opened |
| Ashes of the Forge | Brakka Emberhand | Chained until the anchors are broken |
Story characters follow the nearest party member, fight what the party fights, and are moved to your side if they get stuck. A hit that would drop one below 12 percent health downs it instead. It gets up after 20 seconds, or at once when a party member presses F on it within 5 blocks, at 75 percent health.
Guild workers
Guild workers are NPCs a guild hires to work around its base. Everything about them is guild-only and needs EndlessGuilds.
| Worker | Job |
|---|---|
| Miner | Works placed Mining Site blocks and collects ore, then hauls it to a chest |
| Harvester | Reaps ripe crops on tilled soil and stocks a chest |
| Builder | Builds a purchased blueprint, taking materials from chests |
| Training dummy | A target you can hit freely. It never dies |
Hiring and deploying
Open the menu with /snpc workers (alias /snpc worker). The guild leader, co-leaders and officers can use it. Servers can disable all worker NPCs, in which case the command says so.
- Hiring costs money from the guild bank. The default is 50,000 per worker of any type. A hired worker waits in the roster until you deploy it.
- Deploying puts a worker into the world and recalling takes it back. You must stand inside your guild's claim to deploy.
- Deploy limit. A guild can field
1 + floor(log2(guild level))workers, never more than 8. Three training dummies per guild do not count against the limit. Guild level 1 allows 1 worker, level 2 allows 2, level 4 allows 3, level 8 allows 4, level 16 allows 5, level 32 allows 6, level 64 allows 7 and level 128 allows 8. - The menu lists every worker with its tier, state and name, lets you rename it, assign it to a project, and open its detail page.
- Workers are blocked from placing, breaking or opening containers anywhere their owner could not, across EndlessGuilds, ScuffedProtection, WorldProtect, OrbisGuard and SimpleClaims.
Nameplates read [tier dots] - Name - status.
Tiers and the altar
A worker has a tier from 1 to 4, shown as dots. The only way up is the Sacrificial Altar.
- Use the altar block. Anyone can open it, but only leaders, co-leaders and officers can make offerings.
- Pick the worker to upgrade, then pick offerings: other workers of the same type and same tier from your guild. You can offer between 1 and 10 at once. The Sacrifice all unblessed button instead spends your spare workers automatically: only workers in reserve (not deployed) that you have never renamed and that carry no blessing. It climbs the target as many tiers as the spares allow using only offerings with guaranteed odds, and makes lower-tier offerings out of spares where it needs them.
- The offerings are always consumed, and any ore or crops they were carrying are dropped. The upgrade then succeeds with odds that rise with the number offered, and 10 offerings are guaranteed by default. If the roll fails the worker keeps its tier and the altar says the sacrifice was spurned.
The odds are not shown in the interface. A worker that goes up a tier keeps its own blessings and gets a better tool in hand.
Miners and mining sites
A miner works placed Mining Site blocks of its own tier or lower: Copper (tier 1), Iron (2), Cobalt and Thorium (3), Adamantite (4), and Mithril (4, placed through a ScuffedProfessions capstone). Using a station block opens a panel where you set its priority: Off, Low, Normal or High. Off means no miner works it. A miner prefers higher priority, then higher-value ore, then the closest.
One ore takes a miner exactly at the station's tier this long:
| Station | Ore | Minutes per ore |
|---|---|---|
| Copper | Copper | 12 |
| Iron | Iron | 15 |
| Cobalt | Cobalt | 20 |
| Thorium | Thorium | 20 |
| Adamantite | Adamantite | 30 |
| Mithril | Mithril | 40 |
Each miner tier above the station's tier makes it 20 percent faster. Output is deliberately far below mining by hand. A miner carries 5, 6, 7 or 8 ore (tiers 1 to 4) before it walks to a chest, within 96 blocks, to unload.
Harvesters
A harvester reaps ripe crops on tilled farmland around it (20 blocks by default, wider at higher tiers) and stocks a chest. Higher tiers reap faster, reap more crops per swing (the extras come from neighbouring plots) and carry more: 64 crops at tier 1 and 64 more for each tier above 1. Crops that need a higher tier than the worker's take longer to reap.
Tiredness and Encourage
Miners and harvesters tire. A harvester rests after roughly 100 reaps at tier 1 and a miner after about 5 ore at tier 1, and higher tiers last longer. A tired worker stops until someone Encourages it from its detail page, which costs one item payment:
| Worker | Cost to Encourage |
|---|---|
| Harvester | 1 Concentrated Life Essence |
| Miner tier 1 | 3 Crude Pickaxes |
| Miner tier 2 | 2 Copper Pickaxes |
| Miner tier 3 and 4 | 1 Iron Pickaxe |
A Rejuvinator station can do this for you. At 10 percent stamina a worker pauses and walks to the nearest usable station within 16 blocks sideways and 6 blocks up or down, takes one refresh from its stock, and goes back to work. Open the station to add or take supplies. Each slot holds four refreshes of the supply at its default cost:
| Supply slot | Capacity | Serves |
|---|---|---|
| Concentrated Life Essence | 4 | Harvesters |
| Crude Pickaxe | 12 | Tier 1 miners |
| Copper Pickaxe | 8 | Tier 2 miners |
| Iron Pickaxe | 4 | Tier 3 and 4 miners |
A station placed by a guild member belongs to that guild. Any member can add supplies, and officers, co-leaders and the leader can withdraw them or break the station. Without a guild only the placer can manage it. Rejuvinators are obtained through ScuffedProfessions.
Blessings
Blessings are rare buffs a guild receives as rewards from quests or staff. They go into a counted guild pool. The leader spends them on individual workers from the Blessings button in the workers menu. A worker can hold several. The interface does not explain them.
| Blessing | Works on | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Zbeve | Harvester | Reaps aubergines at any tier, 3 times faster |
| Enki | Harvester | Waters the soil after reaping and refills at nearby water |
| Hermes | Any worker | Moves 1.5 times faster |
| Tyche | Harvester | Reaps one extra adjacent crop per swing |
| Hephaestus | Miner | Ore tires it half as much, so it works a longer shift |
| Atlas | Miner, harvester | Stows its pack into chests in range without walking to them |
Training dummies cannot take blessings.
Blueprints and build projects
Builders construct blueprints. Blueprints are bought and sold between guilds.
Buying and building
- Open
/snpc blueprints. Only the leader, co-leaders and officers can buy. - Choose a blueprint and buy it with guild bank money. Your guild keeps it.
- Choose Place. You get a temporary Blueprint Placer and a ghost preview that follows your aim. Left-click confirms the build at the previewed spot and right-click cancels. The preview can be pinned in place so you can walk around it, and turned a quarter turn. The placer's on-screen legend lists the buttons.
- The build becomes a project. Manage projects with
/snpc projects: rename, stop and resume, cancel (blocks already built stay), mark the site with a beacon, or assign a particular builder. Builders take materials from your chests, so stock them.
Builders place 1 block per swing at tiers 1 to 3 and 2 at tier 4. A swing takes 1 second at tier 1 and gets 0.25 seconds quicker each tier, down to 0.5 seconds.
Selling your own build
Any guild member can sell a build to other guilds:
- Choose to sell from the blueprint menu. You receive a temporary Selection Tool.
- Drag a box over your build, inside your claim. No side may be longer than 128 blocks.
- Run
/snpc blueprintsagain, enter a name (up to 40 characters) and a price from 0 to 100,000,000. - A server admin must approve it before it appears in the shop. You can submit once per day.
When another guild buys it, the seller guild's bank receives 90 percent of the price. The other 10 percent is a market fee.
Thief goblins
Thief goblins punish exposed storage. On open ground near survival players, a goblin sneaks toward a random stocked container and rummages in it for ten seconds while giggling. A successful theft takes one item, not a stack, and the goblin runs away with a small gold shimmer.
- Kill it and it drops the stolen item.
- If nobody stays near the goblin and it despawns, the item is lost.
- A goblin only spawns on open ground with no roof overhead, at least 24 blocks from every nearby player.
- Damaging a goblin that is rummaging interrupts the theft.
- It picks among containers near the player that hold at least one item.
By default a roll happens every 120 seconds per eligible player with a 25 percent chance, with a 600 second cooldown for raids within 64 blocks and at most 8 goblins per world. Creative players and dead players do not trigger raids.
Eggplant Galore event
Eggplant Galore is a timed race run by server staff. You bring eggplants to the Event Host NPC and they count for your guild and for you. Both a guild and a solo leaderboard run, and there is a community goal for everyone. Staff can add a blackout, during which exact scores are hidden for the last hours and only ranks show. Deposits are exact: the game counts what you carry and removes exactly that many.
Prizes are keys (given even to offline winners), keys for everyone who qualified when the community goal is met, and free guild levels for the top guilds. Chat announces the start, milestones, lead changes, the blackout and the winners.
Player Commands
Everything lives under /snpc (alias /scuffednpcs). Most commands in the tree are for staff, so a normal player only needs the ones below.
| Command | Description |
|---|---|
/snpc dialoguespeed · /snpc dspeed | Cycle dialogue text speed |
/snpc dialoguecamera · /snpc dcam | Toggle the conversation camera |
/snpc workers · /snpc worker | Guild workers menu (leader, co-leader, officer) |
/snpc projects | Guild build projects (leader, co-leader, officer) |
/snpc blueprints | Blueprint shop to buy, or sell a selected build |
/snpc worldquest accept <id> | Take a world quest contract. The giver's accept answer runs this for you |
/snpc questhost choose <npc> <row> | Used by hosted dialogue answers. You do not type it |
Talking to NPCs, using the Sacrificial Altar and using Mining Site, Rejuvinator and Blueprint Placer items needs no command.
